Male Kalutas From Western Australia Die En Masse After Single Breeding Season

Male kalutas, tiny mouse sized marsupials from Western Australia, die en masse after a single breeding season. The breeding causes them so much stress and exhaustion that their immune systems fail. This is perhaps not surprising given that they mate with multiple partners—sometimes for up to 14 hours at a time—within the space of one short week.
